Gangopadhyay is a Sanskritist, researcher, and author whose work bridges classical Indian knowledge systems with contemporary intellectual inquiry.
He earned his PhD (2023) in Sanskrit Studies from the University of Hyderabad, with the Rai Narhari Pershad Medal (2024) for the best doctoral thesis on the rasa analysis of non-lyrical, non-percussive Indian pure music and its therapeutic applications (see). His doctoral research was supported by the ICSSR Centrally-Administered Full-Term Doctoral Fellowship (2019-21), a distinction that marked him as the first scholar from the Department of Sanskrit Studies at the University of Hyderabad to receive this fellowship. He completed his M.A. (2018) in Sanskrit from Jadavpur University and his B.A. (Honours) in Sanskrit Studies (2016) from Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute, after beginning his formal Sanskrit training (2009-2013) at Vivekananda Veda Vidyalaya, Belur Math. His specialisations include Advaita Vedānta, Sanskrit poetics, literature, and Indian musicology, with sustained research interest in Indian classical music, Ayurveda, and traditional knowledge frameworks.
Gangopadhyay has authored and co-authored multiple peer-reviewed research papers in national and international journals on music therapy, Sanskrit musicological texts, and philosophical themes.
Alongside his academic scholarship, he is an accomplished multilingual creative writer, publishing poetry, translations, and literary works in Sanskrit, Bengali, and Hindi. He has presented at major seminars and workshops and has served as a reviewer and research associate in interdisciplinary Sanskrit and knowledge-systems projects.
